Abstract

Highlights• The aim was to provide evidence on the links between farm diversity and resource use efficiency, in the context of West Nile zone, Uganda.• Farm typology was used to group households pursuing similar livelihood strategies, and assess their resource use efficiency.• Three farm types were identified differentiated by proportion of income from farming, farmed area, and land use patterns, as the main indicators.• Farm-specialised households showed less efficiency in the use of production inputs compared to off-farm specialised and diversified farms.• Agricultural development interventions should target farmers reliant of farming.
