A low-crystalline mesoporous cobalt ferrite and carbon composite (L-CoFe<sub>2</sub>O<sub>4</sub>/C) material was prepared <italic>via</italic> a sol–gel approach and calcination process. An L-CoFe<sub>2</sub>O<sub>4</sub>/C//AC asymmetric supercapacitor exhibited high energy density and power density.
