A state of the art review of atmospheric icing sensors is presented in this article, in order to\nunderstand their design and working principle for future developments. It is found that most atmospheric icing\nsensors which are capable of delivering maximum information are based upon direct measurement of the\nphysical properties (electrical or mechanical) of atmospheric ice. Some field measurements and cold climate\ndesign constraints are also discussed. This discussion leads to either improve the performance of existing\nsensors and to develop a hybrid sensory unit for improved performance and detailed information delivery.\nCopyright © 2016 IFSA Publishing, S.
