Abstract

CD68<sup>+</sup> macrophages phagocytose apoptotic cell corpses and activate the LAP pathway, thereby contributing to the preservation of a non-inflammed microenvironment. Marked inflammation was detected when autophagy blockers were administered to castrated animals.
