Trapping of superoxido cobalt and peroxido dicobalt species formed reversibly from Co^II and O₂

Abstract

The formation and spectroscopic characterization of a superoxido cobalt(iii) and a peroxido dicobalt(iii) species formed in the temperature dependent reversible reaction of a cobalt(ii) precursor with O₂ is described. The electronic nature of each species is explored in their reactivity with organic substrates.
