Abstract

Mammogram is the most effective tool existing in medical field for the analysis and interpretation of breast images. It is essential to remove the noises affected on mammogram while capturing the image, since it will affect the accuracy of final result. This paper presents a comparative study of different filters based on their performance on denoising mammogram images prior to the early detection of breast cancer. The study investigates Wiener Filter(WF), Gaussian Filter(GF), Adaptive Median Filter(AMF) and Hybrid Median Filter(HMF) and compare their performance based on Mean Square Error(MSE) and Peak Signal to Noise Ratio(PSNR) values. Analysis results reveals that HMF outperforms than all other filtering techniques.
