A frequency diversity reconfigurable antenna with circular polarization switching capability

Abstract

A new microstrip antenna with frequency and polarization diversity is presented in this paper. A corner truncated square patch separated from the corner segment by a narrow slot is employed to change polarization sense. Frequency diversity is obtained by making the size of the corner segment larger than the truncated corner portion of the patch. A PIN diode is installed between the patch and the corner segment to change the sense of circular polarization at two different frequencies. A high impedance microstrip dc bias network is used to control the switching of the diode. The performances of the antenna are experimentally verified and presented here along with the design of the antenna.
