This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (Diagnostic test accuracy). The objectives are as follows: To estimate the diagnostic accuracy of jolt accentuation of headache for detecting acute meningitis in the emergency setting. To investigate the origins of heterogeneity, including study population, patient condition, and types of meningitis as below. Study population: adults or children. Types of meningitis: bacterial, tubercular, or aseptic meningitis. Patient condition: the presence of neurological deficits, disturbed consciousness and altered mental status, immunosuppressive condition, and the use of analgesia.
