The analogue computer is now well established as an indispensable tool in many laboratories, and computers constructed of standard units are now available commercially. The user of such an instrument needs to have a general understanding of the construction of the standard components such as diodes, potentiometers, and amplifiers so as to be able to use them intelligently and with due regard to their limitations ; he does not, however, require to know the finer details of design.
