In this work, glucose was transformed into 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) and 5-ethoxymethylfurfural (EMF) in the presence of AlCl<sub>3</sub>·6H<sub>2</sub>O and a Brønsted solid acid catalyst (PTSA–POM).
