Abstract

High inertial loads are abundant in the industry and most of them are direct on line starter type induction machines with double cage rotors. Due to their higher starting time higher power dissipation in the rotor makes the rotor wear out and eventually gets destroyed. A new starting method proposed herein makes the motor start quickly and smoothly by using an inverter. After reaching it's steady state the motor is switched to draw power from the grid meanwhile the inverter is utilized to control the reactive power drawn from the grid. Thus allowing the motor run with unity or even leading power factor.
