An organic–inorganic hybrid solid [(PyCH<sub>2</sub>NH<sub>3</sub>)<sub>6</sub>][Pb<sub>5</sub>I<sub>22</sub>]·3H<sub>2</sub>O with a 2D inorganic layer exhibited a reversible color change from orange to red at 80 °C in the solid state.
