Despite the fact that people invest more financial temporal and one could argue psychological resources in their homes than in any other noncorporeal entity research on housing and mental health is remarkably underdeveloped. We critically review existing research on housing and mental health including housing type floor level architectural characteristics and structural quality; discuss methodological and theoretical shortcomings in this literature; and provide a conceptual framework for future research on housing and mental health.
