PERSISTENCE IN DISCRETE MODELS OF A POPULATION WHICH MAY BE SUBJECTED TO HARVESTING

Abstract

We consider a class of one‐dimensional maps as discrete models of a single population. A general criterion for persistence of a population is obtained, and this criterion is shown to be valid for many models proposed in the literature. These results are extended to models which are periodic and to models which include constant rate harvesting.
