Introducing alkali halides during thermal condensation of melamine disturbs periodic ordering in the basal plane, reduces the band gap, and facilitates charge carrier transfer and separation, and thus enhances the photocatalytic performance of g-C<sub>3</sub>N<sub>4</sub>.
