Biosynthesis of fatty acids in cell-free preparations. 2. Synthesis of fatty acids from acetate by a soluble enzyme system prepared from rat mammary gland

Abstract

We have reported previously the synthesis of short- and long-chain fatty acids from acetate by cell-free suspensions (homogenates) of mammary gland of lactating rats and sheep (Popj6k & Tietz, 1954a). The following conditions were required for syn-
