Novel 3D porous tungsten carbide hybrid nanowires (p-WC<sub>x</sub>NWs) are prepared on carbon cloth as a binder-free efficient electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution. It shows a high activity and outstanding stability in both acidic and alkaline solutions.
