Abstract

A Middle Eocene mammalian fauna consisting predominantly of rodents has been recovered from the top of the Subathu Formation in the Metka Coalfield, Jammu and Kashmir, India. Three rodent genera of which one, Metkamys blacki n. gen., n. sp., is new, are described. Associated with the mammalian fauna is a sebecosuchid as well as a new anguid lizard Rajaurisaurus estesi n. gen., n. sp., which bears close resemblance to the North American Pancelosaurus.
