SUMMARY Surfaces of apple, banana, blackcurrant, broad bean, cabbage, coffee, hydrangea, pea, rose, Eucalyptus, Exochordia and Rhus leaves and apple fruit are classified by a standardized wetting test into those that are water‐repellent, those that are easily wetted and those over which water spreads without wetting. The affinity of a surface for water is influenced by the amount and chemical composition and especially by the physical configuration of the wax present on the surface.
