A novel reaction-based sensor [4-hydroxy-6-methyl-3-(1-(3-methylpyridin-2-ylimine)ethyl)-2<italic>H</italic>-chromene-2-one-Co²⁺] has been synthesized for the sensitive and selective detection of CN⁻.
