The process of children leaving their parental home in Federal Republic of Germany is discussed. The focus of chapter is on the timing of transition in life cycles of both children and parents institutional forms which shape this process and an assessment of causal factors that underlie it. Findings indicate that until mid-1970s marriage remained dominant reason for departure. (EXCERPT)
