Several IoT protocols have been introduced in order to provide an efficient communication for resource-ronstrained applications. However, their performance is not as yet well understood. To address this issue, we evaluated and compared four communication protocols, namely, CoAP, MQTT, XMPP, and WebSocket. For this, we implemented a smart parking application using open source software for these protocols and measured their response time by varying the traffic load.
