Abstract

The author views his work as a supplementary text devoted to particular aspects of theoretical physics applied to astrophysics, rather than a systematic exposition of theoretical physics as, for example, developed in the volumes of Landau and Lifshitz. It is in fact a treatise on electrodynamics, starting with an account of the Hamiltonian approach to electrodynamics, a discussion of the quantisation of radiation, and covering most aspects of the origins of electromagnetic radiation and its interaction with matter.
