Abstract

This report on the dermatology component of the Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (HANES) is a summary of national estimates by age and sex of the prevalence of skin disorders and the principal types of skin disease. A discussion of trends indicates the amount of concern among people with skin problems and a higher prevalence of such problems among males that among females. Figures show the most requently occurring skin conditions and increases in skin pathology with age. Extensive statistics are included.
