To evaluate the operational flexibility of power system can accurately grasp the regulating capacity of power system, which is helpful to deal with the variability and uncertainty of wind power. Energy storage brings new opportunities for power system operation. In the day-ahead dispatch stage, energy storage can be used to optimize the scheduling and improve the economic performance of power system. In the real-time operation stage, energy storage can be used to improve the operational flexibility of power system. However, the energy storage space of energy storage is limited. Its economic benefit and flexibility benefit are both restricted by the energy storage space. This paper puts forward a metric to evaluate the operational flexibility for power system with energy storage. Simulation results prove the effectiveness and validity of the metric, and results show that energy storage is suitable for providing the flexibility in short time scale.
