(Abstracted from Can J Anaesth, 63(10):1140–1153, 2016) Cardiac patients undergoing surgery are prone to pulmonary hypertension (PH), which can be fatal. Milrinone is administered intravenously to manage PH in cardiac surgery but has adverse effects such as systemic hypotension, increased vasoactive drug requirements, and higher morbidity and mortality, which have been associated with its use.
