Abstract

This research article aims to develop lightweight Aluminium - Boron carbide composites and evaluate the mechanical properties with effect of addition of calcium carbide particles. Objective of this research is to fabricate and testing the mechanical properties of Aluminium metal matrix composites with Boron Carbide and Calcium Carbide reinforcements at different volume proportions. Mechanical properties like tensile strength, shear strength and toughness of newly developed metal matrix composites is improved significantly by incorporating boron carbide and calcium carbide particles. But the toughness of material is considerably reduced if the percentage of calcium carbide addition is increases. Eventually, the addition of calcium carbide particles in composites leads to the reduction of weight in mechanical components without any compromise in the mechanical properties.
