The immunohistochemical distribution of c-myc gene product was studied in human fetuses by the use of an antiserum raised against the C-terminal portion of the human c-myc gene protein. The liver of human fetuses revealed intensely immunoreactive cells intermingled with a small number of negative ones. Immunoreactive cells were very few in the adult liver. In the fetal kidney, proximal convolutions reacted positively to the antiserum; this reaction was retained in the adult organ. A neoplastic tissue of human giant cell lung carcinoma (Lu-65), which has cmyc gene amplification, contained numerous cells immunoreactive for the c-myc gene product. This study demonstrated that in all ofthe above tissues, the immunoreactivity for the c-myc gene product was localized in the cytoplasm and not in the nuclei.
