Abstract

relationships among global population growth and environmental and spatial changes are analyzed. The study places these...linkages in a broader perspective through an exploration of long-term population change at several spatial and temporal scales focusing on the patterns of millennial-scale population change in four regions....A basic thesis of this study is that the scale of analysis can strongly influence interpretations of the subject....Examination of long-term population records at the regional scale reveals a common pattern of significant episodic growth and decline.
