Self-supported porous Ni–Mo alloy microsphere (Ni–Mo MS) films are fabricated in ethaline <italic>via</italic> a facile, one-step electrodeposition approach, which can act as highly efficient and durable bifunctional catalysts for both the HER and OER in 1.0 M KOH.
