Two 1D coordination polymers, [Cd(adc)(4-phpy)<sub>2</sub>(H<sub>2</sub>O)<sub>2</sub>]<italic>n</italic> (<bold>1</bold>) and [Zn(adc)(4-phpy)<sub>2</sub>(H<sub>2</sub>O)<sub>2</sub>]<italic>n</italic>, (<bold>2</bold>) (H<sub>2</sub>adc = acetylenedicarboxylic acid and 4-phpy = 4-phenylpyridine) of which Cd(<sc>ii</sc>) shows better device applicability compared to Zn(<sc>ii</sc>).
