Abstract

A carbazole-containing diarylethene was synthesized. Its fluorescence was enhanced and quenched, respectively, upon addition of Sn2+ and Cu2+ over other cations. Moreover, the compound can be applied to detect Sn2+ and Cu2+ in natural water sample.
