Throughout the short history of the electronic computer (15 years or so), the initial emphasis has been on the rapid processing of large quantities of systematic work; the overall impact has been very impressive. The human problem solver relies on a more 'heuristic' approach based on experience and intuition and in many areas is a match for the computer.
