Abstract

An orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) multiple input multiple output (MIMO) radar at 24GHz is presented in this paper. Waveforms with bandwidth of 625MHz are generated digitally with an arbitrary waveform generator. A six channel RF front-end is used to construct a MIMO system with 2 transmit (Tx) and 4 receive (Rx) antennas. The received signal is sampled with a four-channel oscilloscope for a distance, velocity and direction of arrival (DOA) estimation. We present the performance of the system with measurements in an anechoic chamber. The theoretical distance resolution of 24cm as well as a high dynamic range of more than 50dB has been achieved in measurements. Furthermore, we propose a radar-dedicated power efficient mode for OFDM signal generation and verify its performance with measurements.
