57 East longitude. The total area of Malakand agency is 43200 acres. Malakand agency lies in the semi-arid climatic region with maximum precipitation in winter in the western parts, whereas in the eastern part precipitation occur in the summer. The highest peak in the study area is Hazarnau at an altitude of 2727 m. From time immemorial man used plants to alleviate their suffering from diseases. About 35,000-25, 0000 plants have been used for medicinal purposes (Walter & Hamelton, 1993). Pakistan has rich history on the folk use of plants. Afridi (1986) listed 67 medicinal plants from Khyber agency. Haq & Hussain (1983) reported local medicinal and other traditional uses of plants of Mansehra.
