Most rural areas in South East Asia and Africa have insufficient accessibility to utility grid, because they are located on islands and/or because they consist of remote villages without access to the main system. In order to address the electrification problems in these areas, microgrids have been considered as an attractive solution to effectively utilize the distributed energy resources to meet the local energy demand. The Renewable Energy Integration Demonstrator - Singapore (REIDS) is an islanded test-bed platform located on Semakau Island, dedicated to testing solutions for sustainable and affordable energy access-for-all in Southeast Asia. The Power Mix Management (PMM) project is a part of the REIDS initiative and focuses on developing a microgrid Energy Management System (EMS), to enable optimized functioning of the microgrid, taking into account the renewable energy sources intermittency through suitable forecasts.
