Abstract

In this study the correlations are developed to determine the fundamental properties of the plume, i.e. gas fraction and plume half‐radius as a function of upstream gas‐injection parameters and downstream axial distance. All other properties such as plume radius, volumetric flow rate of liquid, turbulent viscosity and eddy‐mixing length are expressed in terms of gas fraction and plume half‐radius. The eddy‐mixing length is calculated and the calculations have shown that the length changes just marginally with an increased gas‐injection rate. The implication of this finding is discussed in terms of the effects induced by submerged gas injection in the liquid bath.
