Library Training for Services to Minority Ethnic Groups: Concepts and General Principles

Abstract

ISOLATED INSTANCES OF LIBRARYtraining for services to minority ethnic groups occurred in the early part of this century, for example, a 1923 course for the German minority in Czechoslovakia and a 1932course for the French in Canada,' but as a subject of study it has only recently been included in library schools' curricula.As information on such recent development is difficult to find, this paper will deal with general principles illustrated with a few examples rather than attempt a comprehensive coverage of the courses available throughout the world.
