Abstract

Individual mechanisms, such as trust, ethics, and justice, in hospitals enable nurses to have meaningful relationships at work which build their level of commitment to hospitals and translate into a level of work self-efficacy. This study focuses on nurses and aims at explaining the relationships between nurses and their organisations which affect nurses’ commitment and build their self-confidence and the competence to deliver. Data were collected from 201 nurses across six hospitals in Ghana. Findings revealed that justice, ethics, and trust have significant and positive effect on self-efficacy of nurses. It was also revealed that the commitment of nurses mediated the relationship between individual mechanisms of nurses and the level of work self-efficacy.
