A new technique for reducing the splice loss between dispersion compensating and standard single mode fiber is presented. 0.4 dB splice loss is obtained by introducing an intermediate fiber between the dispersion compensating fiber (DCF) and single mode fiber (SMF). By using a specially designed intermediate fiber, the overall splice loss has been reduced from 0.7-0.8 dB to only 0.4 dB. This is to our knowledge the best splice loss between DCF and SMF.
