Two rhodamine hydrazine derivatives <bold>Rh1</bold> and <bold>Rh2</bold> with catechol and ether functionalities have been synthesized and utilized towards sequential colorimetric detections of Cu(<sc>ii</sc>) and pyrophosphate (PPi) ions in a semi-aqueous medium.
