In this work, experimental investigations have been performed with a Gleeble 1500 machine on an AlCu 4.5% alloy to determine both material behavior in a wide temperature range and hot cracking tendency. The elasto-visco-plastic constitutive equation is determined using an optimization model which calculates the best rheological parameters to fit experimental stress curves. This law is then introduced in a finite element model of billet DC casting using the commercial software package MARC.
