Abstract

There has been a lot of research in recent years to find effective methods for damage detection in structures, usually in following steps: First, localization of damage and second, quantification of the severity of the damage. Present days, there are already a several methods to better understand this domain, some very simple, others quite sophisticated. In this paper, a method is proposed to locate damage based on the estimation of curvatures of the frequency response functions (FRF's). Similarly procedures have been developed in the past, using curvature method of mode shapes. However, the application of the curvatures of the FRF's shows better in damage detection process. Some numerical models like simple beam and plate are presented to estimate the efficiency of the proposed method.
