A plate model describing the statics and dynamics of a suspensionbridge is suggested. A partially hinged plate subject to nonlinearrestoring hangers is considered. The whole theory from linearproblems, through nonlinear stationary equations, ending with thefull hyperbolic evolution equation is studied. This paper aims tobe the starting point for more refined models.
