Abstract Product selectivity in the reductive amination of aliphatic ketones with aniline and H2 using a 5% Pt/C catalyst was improved remarkably in the presence of CO2. The CO formed in situ by the reverse water–gas shift reaction selectively poisoned the Pt sites active for undesired side reactions.
