In this paper, the solution for mechanical response of transversely isotropic elastic layered asphalt pavement subjected to impact load is investigated using an extended spectral element method. Details of the mathematical derivation and implementation of newly developed axi-symmetric and half-space spectral elements are presented. By comparing the results of transversely isotropic solution reducing to isotropic solution with existing exact results and the results of transversely isotropic problem with these obtained from the finite-element method, the accuracy of the proposed numerical solution is confirmed. Besides, numerical analyses are also employed to investigate the influences of the character of transverse isotropy of pavement materials on the dynamic response.
