Sequence prediction with mixed order Markov chains

Abstract

An important task in building adaptive user interfaces is to predict the next action the user will take. In this paper we consider the task of predicting the actions of a Unix shell user. We extend an existing approach to this problem and show how it improves the prediction task on real world data.
