Abstract

The newly developed LiF(Mg,Cu,P) TL chips not only retain all the advantages of the outstanding characteristics of the LiF (Mg,Cu,P) phosphor in powder form, but also offer further superiorities: lower detection threshold, 60 nGy (6 µrad) (at least 100 times less than TLD-100 chips) with higher signal-to-noise ratio or lower uncertainty in the low dose range, simplification in reuse and convenience in handling. For LiF (Mg,Cu,P), a smaller, but anomalous, photon energy dependence compared with that expected from its composition is confirmed. Its performance meets all the necessary criteria for a TL dosemeter material for both personal and environmental practical radiation dosimetry.
