Comparison of the fabrication of particulate and platelet-reinforced high coefficient of thermal expansion lithium disilicate glass-ceramics is reported. Densification phenomena v. temperature for the two composite systems is given. Mechanical properties resulting from the incorporation of the two types of inclusion are provided and compared to values obtained for the unfilled matrix. Flexural strength increases of up to 85% are reported. Finally, the commercial potential of the composites materials is discussed
