The confinement effect and template role provided by metal–organic supramolecular frameworks are exploited to fabricate hollow carbon nitride hierarchical microspheres with ultrafine N-doped MoC (MoC<sub>x</sub>N<sub>y</sub>) uniformly dispersed within the network.
